According to a statement by the Military Operations Command’s Directorate-General, two “reconciliation centers” will open in the Mediterranean province of Latakia, in the west of the country, starting tomorrow, Sunday.
“The Military Operations Department announces the opening of the settlement centres for the criminal regime elements in Latakia governorate,” as said that all “elements” of the Assad government must review the centres to complete the settlement procedures and receive a “provisional card from Sunday 15 December 2024.”
“All members of the Assad regime shall go to the above-mentioned centres to complete the regularization and receive the temporary card from Sunday, carrying with them all documents, equipment and material in their possession”.
The note, circulated in the Telegram account of Directorate General and other Syrian news media, warns that those who “do not come, provide false or incomplete information will be subject to judicial prosecution”.
The communiqué lists the addresses of the two “reconciliation centres” in Latakia, where the Alawite Shia branch, to which the Al Asad family belongs, is the majority, but it does not clarify whether the members are only former members of security and military bodies or also senior civil servants.
