The acting Foreign Minister of Syria, Asaad al-Shaibani, reiterated this Sunday from Qatar his call for the US to lift the sanctions imposed against the Arab nation in order to “rebuild the country and guarantee a decent life for its population.”

Shaibani said that they have made Doha aware of their concerns, especially with regard to the economic sanctions imposed on Syria, and again making a request to the US to lift the sanctions against the Syrian people, as Al Shaibani said in statements recorded by the SyriaTV channel, aligned with the new interim government.

The foreign minister visited Doha on Sunday at the head of a delegation composed of the Syrian Defense Minister, Marhaf Abu Qasra, and the head of the Syrian Intelligence, Anas Jatab, who met with the Prime Minister and head of the Qatar diplomacy, Mohamed bin Abderrahman Al Thani.

According to SyriaTV, the Syrian delegation thanked the Qatari authorities for “humanitarian aid” provided after leaving Al-Assad on 8 December, as well as for supporting a “political and peaceful transition” in the Arab country, which has been ravaged by war since 2011 and largely alienated from the international community since then.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the meeting discussed ways to improve bilateral cooperation, as well as the arrival of humanitarian aid provided by Qatar to “alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people”.

Qatar Foreign also reaffirmed Doha’s support for “unity, sovereignty and independence of Syria”, while calling for the aspirations of Syrian citizens to be guaranteed “for a life of dignity and the establishment of a State governed by institutions and the rule of law”.

The high-level Syrian delegation today launched a tour in Doha that will also take it to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan to seek support for the new Syrian administration.
