At least nine people, including six minors, have been confirmed dead following widespread flooding in Botswana, authorities reported on Monday. The semi-arid country has experienced record rainfall over the past week, affecting more than 5,000 people.

In the capital city of Gaborone, the local dam overflowed, resulting in cars being washed away and properties partially submerged. The floods have caused extensive damage to roads, homes, and businesses.

Despite the devastation, officials announced that most schools are expected to reopen on Tuesday after being closed for several days. Additionally, electricity and water supply have been restored in affected areas.

Botswana, like many other countries in Southern Africa, has been recovering from a severe drought, making the recent flooding even more challenging for the nation.
