Rescuers found 11 bodies along the riverbank, while the two buses and 50 passengers remain missing.

The government administrator, Khima Nanda Bhusal, said seven bodies were identified and family members were contacted. Three of the dead are Indians and the remaining four are Nepalese citizens.

On the other hand, the other 4 have not been identified, in fact, the authorities do not even know if they were occupants of any of the injured buses.

“We will continue the search as long as necessary and we have no intention of giving up. We will work until we find them all,” he said.

Buses were running along the major highway connecting the capital of Nepal to the southern parts of the country when they were swept away by the current on Friday morning near Simaltal, some 120 kilometres west of Kathmandu. Three people were dismissed from the buses and were being treated at a nearby hospital.

Nepal’s rivers tend to flow rapidly due to the mountainous terrain. The heavy monsoon rains of recent days have increased the flow of watercourses and caused landslides.
