“If the US government is willing to respect Venezuela’s sovereignty, to stop threatening Venezuela, we can resume dialogue”

In a strong message, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, has urged the US government to respect Venezuela’s sovereignty as a precondition for dialogue between the two nations.

“If the US government is willing to respect Venezuela’s sovereignty, to stop threatening Venezuela, we can resume dialogue, but on the basis of a single point: Qatar’s compliance”, said President Maduro, on the national network, in response to one of the questions, during an international press conference held at the Miraflores Palace.

The head of state announced his intention to publish the minutes and letters related to the Qatar agreements on its social networks as part of a strategy to demonstrate transparency and The Commission has also been working on a number of proposals.

The President recalled his experience in international negotiations, which allows him to have a willingness to dialogue with all sectors.

“I know diplomacy, I know negotiation, because I learned it in the trade union world and then Chávez appointed me chancellor and I learned there. As president, I am a man of dialogue, negotiation, agreement, I have a word, respect what is signed, what is spoken”, he said. He stressed the need to respect the agreements and treaties signed, especially in the context of bilateral relations.

“I have a word; I respect what is signed and what is spoken. The negotiators of the United States of America, Juan González, you know that I am by word (…) President Biden, he knows who I am. With respect to President Biden, I congratulated him on his decision to retire for health reasons,” Maduro said.

He also reaffirmed Venezuela’s position as a sovereign nation that does not accept external interference. “Venezuela is not your colony. What do you mean, you lost patience with Venezuela? So, I can say: I’ve lost patience with you, the United States of America”, said the Venezuelan head of state.

In a gesture of firmness, Maduro stressed: «If they respect Venezuela there will be new dialogues”, while exalting the strength of the people against external pressures.

“We will not lose patience, I promise not to lose patience for your failures and lies, but Venezuela is not mistreated, Venezuela is not treated as a colony», emphasized the National Dignitary.
