Interior Minister says that behind the attacks there are very diverse profiles, from spontaneously angry people to political militants of the ultra-left or ultra-right.

The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, declared on Friday that more than 50 aggressions took place against candidates or militants during the electoral campaign of the second round of the legislative elections, scheduled for Sunday, July 7.

During an interview, Darmanin expressed that there is a climate of great violence and expressed his fear of more unrest when the results of the elections are known next Sunday.

In that sense, the politician announced that 30,000 police will be mobilized, of which 5,000 will remain in Paris for as long as necessary.

The minister reported that several of the victims have ended up in the hospital, and gave as an example the government spokeswoman, Prisca Thevenot, who is a candidate for deputy in the city of Meudon and was attacked this Wednesday afternoon along with other politicians.

During the assault, carried out by young men, Thevenot’s deputy and a militant were injured and their jaw was broken.

The far-right candidate, Marie Dauchy, was also attacked at a market in her constituency in Savoy.

This Friday concludes the electoral campaign before the second round. From 24H00 begins a period of reflection for each citizen to consider which candidate will deliver your vote.
