In a recent episode of the program Going Underground, Waters, known for his strong advocacy for the Palestinian cause, seized the opportunity to criticize Israel and its allies, asserting that an existential battle is underway for the soul of humanity.
“We are witnessing the machinations of what may be the end of an empire—the Western empire. We have removed our masks. We, in the West, behave with unbearable brutality towards oppressed peoples around the world,” Waters stated. His comments reflect a profound awareness of being part of a system that oppresses and plunders, which he aims to expose through his cultural influence. “My feeling is that we, the people, hate it. We hate the brutality of our governments,” he added.
Waters urged people not to remain silent and emphasized that his side represents billions: “If the empire wins this battle, our children and grandchildren—and any survivors—will have to live in a future where we all agree that genocide is acceptable.” He warned against a future where anyone armed would shoot at those they disagree with.
In his view, Western powers have never truly believed in their rhetoric regarding international law and human rights. He stated, “Because if we believed in it, we would insist on enforcing the International Court of Justice’s order regarding the genocide occurring in Gaza.” He condemned Israel’s intentions to massacre all Palestinian men, women, and children while criticizing the applause this violence receives from certain Western powers.
Waters also addressed another Arab nation whose integration and culture are threatened by genocidal thinking from the West. He cautioned those celebrating the recent fall of the Syrian government to temper their enthusiasm, arguing that the ousted regime never had a chance to improve conditions due to Western sanctions and partial military occupation. “Many people around the world are now shouting ‘Oh, Syria is free!’ Let’s wait and see what happens in Syria before jumping too far,” he asserted during the broadcast.
He highlighted that there are U.S. troops stealing oil from Syrians and remarked, “Here we are—a gang of powerful gangsters ready to steal everything worth stealing in this world.”
Waters’ bold statements resonate as a call for more courageous voices in discussions about global issues affecting humanity’s future. As he continues to use his platform for advocacy, it becomes increasingly important for individuals across various spheres to engage critically with these pressing matters facing our world today.
