In 2025, Russia will establish an embassy in Dominican Republic so as to strengthen cooperation with Caribbean countries.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the relationships between his nation and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are based on friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation without ideological impositions.

“The interest of the majority of Latin American countries is to strengthen and expand their ties with Moscow,” he said, noting that collaboration between the Russian Federation and its subnational governments encompasses political, diplomatic, economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas.

The head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that his country is willing to deepen these ties based on the specific needs of Latin American nations.

“Our relations are based on equality, mutual benefit, and mutual respect,” Lavrov reiterated, highlighting that these policies are not rooted in any doctrinal imposition, “whether it be the Monroe Doctrine or any other.”

The Russian diplomat referred to the hypocrisy of Washington and criticized concerns expressed by U.S. President Joe Biden regarding Russia’s presence in countries like Nicaragua and Venezuela.

“Over the past four years, Biden has repeatedly expressed, through official representatives, concerns that Russia has sent a delegation to Nicaragua or Venezuela, claiming this poses risks to U.S. security,” he recalled.

Lavrov pointed out that Washington lacks moral authority to restrict sovereign relations between Russia and other nations, considering that the U.S. has over 200 military bases around the world. “One must have dignity. Everyone fully understands that the U.S. creates risks to other countries’ security,” he said.

In 2025, Russia will establish an embassy in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) as a clear example of its willingness to strengthen political dialogue and economic cooperation with Caribbean countries.
