“The UAE has successfully mediated a new captives exchange between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, resulting in the release of 230 captives,” the Gulf country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.

This is the first soldiers exchange since the Ukrainian invasion into the Russian region of Kursk on Agust 6, the biggest attack inside Russian territory by a foreign power since World War Two.

Russia and Ukraine have made periodic exchanges of war prisoners since the start of the military actions thirty months ago despite the absence of any peace talks between them since the early months of the conflict.

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said that those freed included members of the country’s national guard, the armed forces and the navy.

On the other hand, the Russian authorities of the Defense Ministry confirmed that the Russian servicemen swapped were captured in the Kursk region.
