Russia used 19 cruise, ballistic, and guided missiles in the attack, primarily targeting gas processing facilities. State-owned company Naftogaz reported damage to gas production infrastructure in Poltava, where a dozen municipalities lost heating due to the attack. However, no casualties were reported.

Ukraine processes most of the gas it extracts in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions. Previously, Russian forces had also attacked two other gas processing and storage centers in the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

Unlike its usual practice following such attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force did not provide information on the number of intercepted missiles. However, in a statement to the publication Ukrainska Pravda, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat admitted that the Russian missiles used in attacks like the one on Poltava are particularly difficult to intercept due to the quantity and variety of weaponry employed.

In addition to missiles launched from land, sea, and air, Russia deployed a total of 124 drones, including both attack drones and decoy drones designed to confuse Ukrainian defenses.

On Monday night, Ukraine also launched a drone attack on a Russian oil refinery in the Saratov region, which processes approximately 7 million tons of fuel and other petroleum products annually.

Ukrainian forces also targeted the Russian city of Engels, located in the Saratov region and home to a Russian airbase. Russian authorities reported that 40 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight across the regions of Saratov, Rostov, Bryansk, Volgograd, and Belgorod.

Eighteen Ukrainian drones were intercepted over the Saratov region, which lies on the banks of the Volga River and more than 250 kilometers from the nearest point of the Ukrainian border.
