Moscow has managed to reclaim approximately 1,500 square kilometers in the Donbas over the past two months.

On Monday, Russian troops continued their advance in eastern Ukraine, liberating the town of Novooleksiivka in the Donetsk region despite the uproar caused by the announcement that the United States had authorized Kyiv to use long-range missiles against Russian territory.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Novooleksiivka was liberated by units of the Tsentr grouping, which in recent days also took control of the villages of Stepanivka, Leninske, and Makarivka.

According to British military sources, Moscow has managed to reclaim approximately 1,500 square kilometers in the Donbas over the past two months.

The liberation of these territories in the Donbas comes after U.S. President Joe Biden authorized Kyiv to strike targets on Russian territory, specifically in the border region of Kursk, with long-range weapons.

On Monday, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, accused Washington of “adding fuel to the fire” of the war in Ukraine with this decision.

“It is evident that the outgoing administration in the U.S. intends to continue fueling the fire and provoking an escalation of tensions surrounding this conflict,” Peskov said.

He emphasized that if it is confirmed that the West has given Kyiv the green light, it would signify “a qualitatively new phase of tension and a new situation regarding U.S. involvement” in the conflict.
