The Russian army has liberated 10 localities including Snagost, which had been turned into a Ukrainian fortified outpost.

On Thursday, the Russian army continued to reclaim border areas in the Kursk region through a surprise counter-attack that has allowed it to retake ten localities in the last 48 hours.

This Russian counter-offensive was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense and also by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky himself, who had ordered his country’s forces to make an incursion into that Russian territory on August 6.

“Now we are driving them out, and we will continue to drive them out. There can be no doubt,” said Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov when commenting on the counterattack that began on Tuesday and involved several regiments and mechanized units.

So far the Russian army has reclaimed around ten localities, including Snagost, which had been turned into a fortified outpost by Ukrainian forces. This should allow Moscow to unblock a large unit cornered in the neighboring Glushkovo district, between the Seim River and the Ukrainian border.

Russian forces also liberated Biajovo, Gordeevka, Apanasovka, Vishnevka, Viktorovka, Vpezapnoye, Krasnooktiabrskoye, Obukhovka, and 10th Oktiabr. Bloggers estimated the area reclaimed to be over 221 square kilometers in Kursk, where the Ukrainians had come to control 1,300 square kilometers. The Deep State project, close to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, admitted the “deterioration of the situation on the left flank of the Ukrainian grouping in Kursk” and an intensification of attacks in Snagost.

Meanwhile, Lavrov accused the West of giving Ukraine permission to attack Russian territory with long-range missiles after the U.S. announced sanctions against Iran for supplying ballistic missiles to Moscow.

“We have no doubt that the decision to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons to attack Russian territory was made long ago,” he said, calling the visit to Kyiv by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.K. Foreign Minister David Lammy a “staged performance.”

“Every day, the number of Ukrainianattacks on civilian targets and shelling of civilians is drastically increasing… Western military specialists are literally manually coordinating attacks with high-precision weapons,” Lavrov said and accused NATO of supplying Kyiv with intelligence satellite data, which is used to “strike targets within Russian territory,” including energy and industrial infrastructure, but also homes, schools, and hospitals.

On Wednesday, during their visit to Kyiv, Blinken and Lammy emphasized that the authorization to use long-range missiles would be addressed by their respective heads of state during the meeting they are scheduled to have this Friday in Washington.
