The facility, located several hundred meters from the Ukrainian border, had been under Ukrainian control since August 2024. Russia has recently regained control over Sudzha.
On Thursday, Ukrainian forces detonated this facility. The Investigative Committee of Russia announced launched a criminal investigation into the explosion at the station.
“Ukrainian servicepeople, who illegally invaded the territory of Russia, carried out a deliberate explosion of the Sudzha gas distribution station, as a result of which the facility received significant damage,” Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told Sputnik on Friday.
“There were no casualties or injuries among the civilian population from the explosion,” Sputnik reported, noting that experts have already begun assessing the consequences of the terrorist attack.
“Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the bombing of the Sudzha station revealed how much faith can be placed in the words of Vladimir Zelensky and his team,” it added.
The Sudzha station was a major entry point for Russian gas exports to Europe via Ukraine until it ceased operations on Jan. 1, following the expiration of a five-year transportation agreement.
