Russia Fines Apple and Mozilla for Failing to Remove Banned Information

On Tuesday, a Moscow court fined tech companies Apple and Mozilla Corporation US$36,900 and US$35,800 respectively for failing to remove prohibited information from their online platforms in Russia.

Both rulings were issued by the Tagansky District Court in the Russian capital, as reported by the press service of Moscow’s courts on Telegram.
Russian legislation prohibits the dissemination of information that incites ethnic, racial, or religious hatred; poses a threat to the life and health of minors; or encourages them to consume drugs, tobacco, or alcohol, participate in gambling, engage in prostitution, or wander the streets.
It also bans websites that justify cruelty to animals, deny “family values,” or promote “non-traditional sexual relationships.”

Previously, Russian courts also sanctioned Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, among other social media platforms, and have blocked access to the first two platforms as well as Instagram.
