Russian forces also fired their first intercontinental ballistic missile at factories and critical infrastructure in Dnipro.

On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its air defense systems shot down two Storm Shadow cruise missiles of British manufacture. Over the last 24 hours, Russian forces also managed to shoot down six U.S.-made HIMARS missiles and 67 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles

The Ukrainian attack comes after U.S. President Joe Biden authorized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to use long-range missiles such as Storm Shadow or ATACMS against Russian territory.

“A new escalation is taking place. The outgoing administration is taking a very irresponsible position,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, referring to the Biden administration.

“They continue to add fuel to the fire of the Ukrainian conflict, preventing by all means even the slightest dynamic that could lead to its resolution, while simultaneously using Ukraine as a tool in their hands in their war against Russia,” he added.

On Thursday, Russian forces fired their first intercontinental ballistic missile at factories and critical infrastructure in the city of Dnipro. This missile was launched from Astrakhan, a Russian region that is being attacked by Ukrainian drones, as confirmed Andri Kovalenko, the head of the Center against Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

While Ukrainian defenses were able to shoot down some Kh-101 cruise missiles, they did not intercept the intercontinental ballistic missile or the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, which are two of the most sophisticated missiles in the Russian arsenal.

The attack on Dnipro comes after the U.S., Spain, Italy and Greece closed the doors of their embassies in Kyiv on Wednesday in the face of the danger of a massive Russian attack on Ukrainian territory.
