Russia, Iran and Turkiye FM Concerned About Armed Escalation in Syria

In telephone conversations with his counterparts from Iran Abbas Aragchi, and Turkiye Hakan Fidan, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Syria after an armed escalation between the Syrian Army and terrorist groups, according to a Statement of the Ministry.

“During the conversation, both sides [Russia and Iran] expressed their deep concern about the dangerous escalation of the situation in Syria due to the terrorist incursion of armed groups into the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib,” the statement said.
Both Russian and Iranian FM agreed in their support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and on “the need to intensify joint efforts to stabilise the situation in Syria and address the situation urgently and comprehensively within the framework of the Astana format”.
The Russian Foreign Ministry highlighted in the statement that Russia and Turkiye “expresaron una profunda preocupación por el peligroso desarrollo de la situación en la República Árabe Siria debido a la escalada militar en las provincias de Alepo e Idlib.”
Fidan and Lavrov reiterated the need to “coordinate efforts with a view to stabilizing the situation” in the Arab country in the face of the armed escalation in Syria, as they agreed to work together to contribute to the resolution of the situation within the framework of the Astana format.
