Russian forces liberated two more towns in Kursk, one of them near Sudzha, the main Ukrainian stronghold in that region.

On Monday, Russian authorities ordered the mandatory evacuation of border towns with Ukraine in two more districts of Kursk, amid the Russian counteroffensive to expel enemy troops from that region.

Governor Alexei Smirnov explained that the evacuation affects towns located within a 15-kilometer strip along the border. The decision was made to ensure the safety of residents in the border areas of the Rylsk and Khomutovsky districts, which are only a few kilometers from the combat zone.

“Dear fellow citizens, I ask you to understand the current situation and follow all the recommendations of the authorities and security agencies,” he said, adding that local authorities, security forces, and volunteers from the Patriot Center will lead the evacuation processes.

On Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that its forces had liberated two more towns in Kursk, one of them near Sudzha, the main Ukrainian stronghold in that border region. The Sever (North) military group regained control of the small village of Borki, about 14 kilometers southeast of Sudzha.

Russian troops also liberated the village of Uspenovka, south of Snagost, a fortified position recaptured by Moscow last week when the Russian Army launched a counteroffensive to expel Ukrainian troops from Kursk, which shares several hundred kilometers of border with the neighboring country.

So far, Russian troops have reclaimed twelve towns, although Kyiv continues to launch counterattacks to prevent Moscow from creating a security strip in the northern part of the country, specifically in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War maintains that Moscow will need to concentrate more forces in the area if it wants to regain control of the entire border. Meanwhile, Russia continues its offensive in the Donbas.
