Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the downing of several Ukrainian drones near the capital, specifically in Kolomna, Ramenskoye, and Podolsk.
“So far, there have been no damages or casualties at the locations where fragments fell,” he stated, noting that the attack led to the temporary suspension of operations at three airports in the Russian capital. Authorities also suspended services at airports in Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Samara, Saratov, and Ufa.
Three drones were shot down in the Leningrad region, which borders Saint Petersburg, the country’s second-largest city. At least 37 unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed over the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine.
In the Ryazan region, where channel Baza reported a fire near an oil refinery, 20 drones were downed. Authorities reported that fragments of a drone fell on the premises of a company, causing no casualties.
Meanwhile, during the World Economic Forum held in Davos on Friday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reminded Western nations that the Ukrainian conflict is unrelated to oil prices.
He emphasized that the ongoing conflict is a consequence of threats to Russian national security stemming from NATO’s expansion, the genocide by Kyiv’s regime against the Russian population in Donbas, and the West’s disregard for Moscow’s legitimate concerns.
