BRICS Summit Statement Speaks Out Strongly Against Unilateral Sanctions

“Venezuela walks with BRICS by conviction… We stand for equality in the world. We apply BRICS principles because they reflect our beliefs. The Global South can only exist if we preserve the right to a future and the rights to equality and freedom,” the Bolivarian leader said.

For his part, President Putin said that his country welcomes Venezuela’s incorporation into BRICS, the economic cooperation group led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

“We support your aspiration to join BRICS’ work… Venezuela is an old and reliable partner of Russia in Latin America,” he said.

“Our Venezuelan friends are close to our values: respect for the sovereignty of each state and mutually beneficial and honest cooperation.”

Putin also emphasized that Venezuela aims for the formation of a new world order, rejects the Russophobia promoted by Western countries, and contributes to the fight against the hybrid war against Russia.

“Russia and Venezuela have forged ties that cannot be broken,” said Maduro, who described the BRICS summit as “a great message of hope to the peoples of the world.”
