The FSB dismantled a cell belonging to an international terrorist organization banned in Russia, whose members from a Central Asian country were planning to commit a terrorist attack.
The members received instructions from an emissary of the organization abroad and were plotting to blow up the building of the railway station in Pskov. They carried out reconnaissance, acquired components to build an improvised explosive device, and began assembling it, the FSB said, noting that they planned to flee to a Middle Eastern country after conducting the terror attack.
“When detained, the terrorists made armed resistance to the officers of the Federal Security Service and were eventually neutralized by return fire,” Russian authorities added.
On Thursday, Russian authorities also reported the downing of two drones just over 200 kilometers from St. Petersburg. They were targeting a control station of Transneft Baltika, the state-owned company responsible for Russian oil pipelines.
“This morning in the territory of the Khvoininsky district a terrorist attack was prevented that targeted a control station of Transneft Baltika,” said the authorities of the Novgorod region.
On Thursday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported that its forces shot down 83 Ukrainian drones throughout the night: 37 in the Bryansk region; 12 in Kursk and Liptesk; 9 in Tver; 3 in Belgorod, Kaluga, Smolensk and Voronezh and one in Rostov. Ukraine has increased its drone bombings over Russian territory in recent weeks, with the main target being energy facilities.
