The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement will be signed three days before Trump’s inauguration.
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement would enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas.

“This is important as it will allow us to give greater momentum to practically all areas of our cooperation,” Putin said, emphasizing that the agreement would increase bilateral trade, although he noted that the current trade volume is already “more than respectable” and, in fact, grew by 17% in 2024.
The Russian leader also expressed his willingness to hold consultations with Pezeshkian on international issues, including those concerning the Middle East, which he described as being “in high demand.”
Pezeshkian highlighted that the agreement would “open a new chapter” in relations that he described as “strategic” and revealed that both countries would sign additional agreements during the day.
The Iranian leader expressed satisfaction with the state of relations with Russia and voiced confidence that “minor errors” found in existing agreements would be corrected during the day’s discussions.
Russia and Iran are set to finalize an agreement for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Iranian territory, where the Russians have already built an atomic facility in Bushehr.
Regarding the international situation, Pezeshkian stressed that regional problems should be resolved by the countries directly involved. “We believe that the presence of external forces in our region could exacerbate and destabilize the situation,” he said, in a clear reference to the United States.
Putin also conveyed his best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, noting that “everything related to Russian-Iranian relations is under his personal supervision.”
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, which will include defense cooperation, will be signed three days before the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. Relations between Russia and Iran have strengthened in recent years, particularly in the context of the Ukrainian war.
