Currently, about 150 U.S. corporations continue to operate in Russia, most of them having done so for over 25 years.
On Tuesday, Kiril Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), announced that his country plans to soon discuss space cooperation between Russia and the United States with SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

“Talks with Musk will take place in the near future. We believe that Musk is a unique leader, committed to ensuring that a united humanity continues to move forward,” said Dmitriev, who had previously proposed to Musk the idea of a joint mission to Mars.
“Our knowledge and technologies must serve the good of humanity, not its destruction,” he said a few days ago.
Dmitriev recalled that 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Soviet-American mission (Apollo-Soyuz) and questioned whether 2029 could be the year for a joint mission between both countries to the Red Planet, given Musk’s plans to send his mega rocket, Starship, to Mars. If the initial tests are successful, crewed flights to Mars could become a reality starting in 2029, according to the owner of X.
“Our idea of working with Musk is not just about Mars, but also about the strong capabilities of both the Roscosmos space agency and the Rosatom atomic agency, which could also contribute to the Mars flight, making it more efficient and safer,” Dmitriev stated.
Dmitriev, Russia’s negotiator for economic normalization with the U.S., reiterated that about 150 American companies continue to operate in Russia, most of them having done so for more than a quarter of a century. Additionally, he predicted the return of more U.S. companies as the process of normalizing relations between the two countries progresses.
