The health authorities of São Paulo, Brazil, declared a dengue epidemic in the region this Friday after the incidence of the disease reached 303 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, surpassing the threshold established by the World Health Organization (WHO), which is 300 cases.

This declaration comes in an alarming context, as the state has recorded a total of 134,798 confirmed dengue cases and 126 deaths attributable to the disease so far.

The State Health Secretariat reported that, in response to this situation, a state of Emergency has been implemented across the entire national territory to facilitate the mobilization of resources and improve assistance infrastructure in affected municipalities.

The federal government has also taken proactive measures, investing in the distribution of medical supplies, expanding diagnostic testing, and deploying the National Force of the Unified Health System (SUS) to ensure rapid and effective care for the population.

Although the majority of cases have been reported in the interior of the state, the city of São Paulo has a lower incidence with 52.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. However, 6,004 cases and one death have already been recorded in the capital since the beginning of the year.

The situation is critical, with another 87,003 cases and 252 deaths under investigation for their possible link to dengue, highlighting the urgent need for a coordinated response between state and municipal authorities.

Integration in the fight against dengue and other arboviruses is essential to mitigate the impact of this epidemic and protect the health of citizens.

The efforts of the government and health authorities are crucial at this time to contain the spread of the virus and provide adequate care to those in need.
