In a previous statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry mentioned that the meeting seeks to unify positions and define strategies to stop attacks in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as ensuring support for the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
The summit also has the challenge of addressing political change in the US, following the re-election of Donald Trump as president.
In opening remarks, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud stressed the urgency of a solution that would ensure security in Gaza and Lebanon and underlined that the attacks have put civilians in an extreme vulnerable situation.
He also stressed the importance of a unified position between Arab and Islamic countries to strengthen support for those affected and mobilize the international community in favour of a diplomatic solution.
The leaders are also expected to discuss the impact of the recent attacks on the Israeli-Lebanese border, as well as the implications of the Israeli-Hamas confrontation in Gaza, where the number of casualties continues to rise.
