‘It’s a sign that there is recognition that the root causes must be addressed,” the Mexican president stated.
On Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum celebrated that U.S. President Donald Trump had shared the Mexican anti-drug campaign on social media.

“I was surprised that President Trump posted the video of the campaign we’re running in Mexico on his social media yesterday. We sent it to him a few weeks ago,” she said.
“A lot of people around the world follow President Trump’s social media… It’s a sign that there is recognition that the root causes must be addressed. A recognition that the issue of drugs or drug addiction is not only a matter for the police and the National Guard,” Sheinbaum stated.
Earlier, Trump had posted on his Truth Social account a video produced by the Mexican government warning about the dangers of fentanyl.
Sheinbaum emphasized that efforts must be made to prevent fentanyl and other drugs from reaching the United States and Mexican youth, but also that the root causes must be addressed, as many young people turn to criminal groups not only for money but also to find a sense of identity.
“What we want is for them to have an identity linked to art, culture, sports, and a life filled with access to rights. I don’t like to say ‘give them an opportunity’ because young people should have rights to education, culture, and sports,” she explained.
The fight against fentanyl has been a crucial issue for both Mexico and the United States, especially after President Trump threatened to impose 25% tariffs in retaliation for drug trafficking and the flow of migrants.
