She said in Mexico “We will always have our heads up, Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign country. As I said, we coordinate, collaborate, but we do not subordinate.”
Sheinbaum also highlighted the qualities of the people of Mexico, describing them as honest, hardworking and courageous and emphasizing the ability of Mexicans to overcome adversity, mentioning that migrants in the United States sent nearly $65 billion to their families in Mexico this year.
Although they contribute to the Mexican economy, their impact on the US economy is even greater, says the president, “our sisters and brothers in the United States who this year sent their families close to $65 billion. They contribute to the economy of Mexico, but they contribute more to the economy of the United States, because what they send is only 20% of what they leave there in consumption, savings and taxes.”
She recalled historical moments of mutual support between the two countries without overlooking “very painful moments” in the history between several countries but prefers to highlight “good examples of respect for our sovereignties and collaboration and support.”
She quoted when Benito Juárez, President of Mexico between 1858 and 1872 “received invaluable help from Abraham Lincoln in his fight against the French invaders and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s respect for Lázaro Cárdenas.”
I also highlight the good relationship of respect and collaboration between President Dolald Trump and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his first term, which led to the signing of the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada, which “has benefited our peoples, all three of them, in particular by the substitution of imports and the creation of employment in the three Nations.”
Sheinbaum said that since that signing, it was considered the only way to face the competition of the economic advance of Asian countries, and now she proposes not only integration in North America, but throughout the American continent, looking for a powerful region, Prosperous and respectful of the freedom and sovereignty of all its nations.
Sheinbaum reaffirmed the need to fight for a country with justice, democracy and freedom, as well as the importance of peace and prosperity through the extension of rights for the people. He also expressed solidarity with the people affected by fires in California, and concluded his speech celebrating the work and dignity of Mexicans abroad.
