The system offers guarantees to prevent any type of manipulation of the voting machines before, during, and after the voting day.

On Monday, the Spanish writer Ignacio Ramonet stated that the characteristics of the Venezuelan electoral system make it impossible to obtain fraudulent results in the presidential elections on July 28.

“The far-right defamation campaign seeks to position the narrative that the presidential elections will be easily manipulated. That is impossible due to the strong safeguards of the electoral system,” he said at “Venezuela Decides 2024,” a TV program hosted by teleSUR President Patricia Villegas.

The Spanish intellectual also reminded that the Venezuelan electoral system offers multiple guarantees to prevent any type of manipulation of the voting machines before, during, and after the voting day.

“The far-right continues to argue that the system is susceptible to being manipulated by the authorities. This theory, however, does not hold,” Ramonet said, recalling that the electronic system is subject to several audits to which representatives of the opposition parties and international observers have access.

“The Venezuelan electoral system was designed so that it is not vulnerable and does not allow for cheating. It cannot be breached in any way,” Ramonet said, adding that the authorities ultimately guarantee the impartiality of the electoral process.

In an attempt to preemptively delegitimize what will happen on July 28, the far-right opposition is publishing supposed opinion polls with the intention of presenting their candidate as the winner. This early move will allow conservatives to “cry fraud” if their politicians do not win the presidential elections.

“Therefore, it must be repeated that neither the Venezuelan government nor the electoral authorities can cheat because the system is strongly safeguarded,” Ramonet reiterated, reminding that Venezuela is a place where democracy is guaranteed thanks to citizen participation.
