The ideals and strength of the Liberator shine brighter than ever in Venezuela, he stressed.

On Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated that the Liberator Simon Bolivar watches over the destinies of Latin American peoples. His statement was made during his speech at the commemoration of the 194th anniversary of Bolivar’s death, held at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.

Addressing an audience that included members of the Bolivarian National Militia, he recalled that 194 years ago, Venezuela bid farewell to its Liberator, but his noble soul remained vigilant.

“On a day like today, 194 years ago, we said goodbye to the greatest leader who gave all he had: his life. Though born into wealth in this city, he gave away all his riches in the name of freedom,” Maduro stated.

“The ideals and strength of Bolivar shine brighter than ever in Venezuela. Every hundred years, Bolivar awakens when the people awaken, and here, the people have awakened never to fall asleep again or to be betrayed. Here stands the people of Bolivar, transformed into workers, soldiers, and militiamen,” the Venezuelan president emphasized.

Maduro praised the militia parade that reached the Miraflores Palace, highlighting the high level of preparation, discipline, self-awareness, and organization achieved by the workers’ and popular militias.

“Magnificent images of a people who love peace. What we love most is the right of our families to live in peace, the right of our working class to labor and prosperity, and the right to be Venezuelans and to have a true republic—independent and sovereign,” Maduro said.

He also mentioned that Venezuela has a perfect defensive model, a legacy of centuries of struggle by figures such as Guaicaipuro, Jose Leonardo Chirinos, Bolivar, Negro Primero, Sucre, Urdaneta, and Ezequiel Zamora. This defensive model has also incorporated the lessons of the best global doctrines, such as those of the Vietnamese people.

“Venezuela upholds the concept of the people’s war for the defense of the homeland. This is the concept we have been adapting and building. The protagonist is the Venezuelan people, as stated in the Constitution for the past 25 years,” he concluded.
