Since January in Ecuador More Than 20,000 Animals Have Died in Forest Fires

More than 20,000 dead animals left behind so far the 1,994 forest fires that have occurred in 19 provinces of Ecuador since the beginning of the year, which have caused the loss of more than 18,300 hectares of vegetation.

National Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR) which said that the provinces with the greatest losses in plant cover include Loja, Azuay, Carchi and Pichincha, each with more than 1,000 hectares; followed by Guayas, El Oro, Imbabura, Chimborazo, Cotopaxi and Tungurahua, each with over 100 hectares.
The report mentions 20,005 dead animals without specifying their species, in addition says 205 people have been affected, eight injured, ten families damaged and an equal number of houses destroyed.
The report details that August was worst month with more than 4500 hectares of vegetation burned. Following, July and January was also months of great concern.
The entity reports that 82.500 liters of water have been discharged over large fires, summoning more than 14 aerial interventions.
According to the SNGR, there are currently 21 active forest fires in the provinces of Imbabura, Azuay, Loja, Carchi, Chimborazo, Pichincha, El Oro and Cotopaxi.
The provinces with the highest number of affected at the moment are Loja (8,178.36 hectares), Azuay (2,578.38), Carchi (1,896.16) and Pichincha (1,891.18 hectares), according to statistics.
