At least seven civilians, including three women and a girl, were killed in a wave of artillery bombardments by the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the town of Omdurman on Friday, Khartoum, the Sudanese Ministry of Health reported in a statement.

According to the note, the bombings targeted residential areas in the Karari and Omdurman area of the capital’s metropolitan area, leaving 25 people injured, most of whom suffered some form of amputation.

The popular market in Bir Hamad, the only one operating in the area, a hospital and several private houses were also attacked.

The Armed Forces had recovered much of Omdurman, while the neighbours had begun to return, but the paramilitaries have launched a new offensive to regain control of this strategic city.

Despite the constant change of war fronts, the army has largely regained control of the state of Sennar, south of Khartoum, while maintaining its headquarters in eastern Sudan; The RSF almost completely dominate the troubled western region of Darfur.

The ongoing war in Sudan has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and has led to the worst displacement crisis on earth, forcing more than 10 million people to flee their homes, while it has also put more than 25 million Sudanese on the verge of starvation.
