The Sudanese Armed Forces have successfully regained control of Khartoum International Airport and the paramilitary camp in Jabal Awliya, which is considered the last stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Sudanese Army spokesman Colonel Nabil Abdala, who stated that government troops expelled the rebels from these key positions following a series of offensives.

“Our forces took control of Khartoum International Airport after expelling the terrorist militia led by (Mohamed Hamdan) Dagalo,” he expressed. According to the official statement, government-aligned forces also recovered the Soba and Manshiyah bridges, as well as the Al Baqir area, which serves as the southern entrance to Khartoum.

Additionally, they secured control of a communications tower overlooking the Blue Nile and strategic facilities such as the Air Defense headquarters, Chemical Weapons site, and National Service.

“What remains of the thugs are just a few hideouts here and there that will soon be eliminated,” Abdala declared. Previously, the Army had confirmed the capture of the Tayba al Hasanab camp located in Jabal Awliya, southwest of Khartoum, which is considered a major operational center for paramilitary leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as Hemeti) in central Sudan.

These advances come days after government forces reclaimed the Presidential Palace and other government buildings in downtown Khartoum that had been occupied by rebels since the conflict began in April 2023. The Jabal Awliya area is not only crucial for controlling Khartoum but also serves as a connection point to the regions of Kordofan and Darfur, where the RSF maintains a strong presence.
