The Harussat organization(which means the guardians women) held a conference entitled “Towards a Joint Feminist Agenda for Peace and Restoring the December Revolution” with the participation of 100 women, last September in Kampala.
The memorandum called on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and regional organizations to take serious steps to protect civilians from killing, forced displacement, and starvation, and to expedite the necessary practical measures to pressure the parties to the conflict to return to the negotiating table with the full participation of civil forces, and to ensure the participation of women, in implementation of the commitments of the Geneva talks and international resolution 1325, and an immediate ceasefire.
Mass killings ans sexual violence have also recently been reported in Aj Jazirah state, where women were the most affected by this crisis. The conflict in Sudan has the potential to destabilize the entire region, affecting neighbouring countries from the Sahel to the Red Sea.
The memorandum stressed the need to expand and tighten sanctions on those obstructing peace, impose an arms embargo on all parties to the conflict in Sudan, and prevent international and regional powers from supplying the parties with weapons and money, through a binding resolution from the Security Council.
The Harissat organization called for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians, especially women and children, based on a binding resolution and procedures from the UN Security Council, and a ban on aerial bombardment of civilians, which has increased in recent weeks in areas such as Hasahisa and Wad Madani in Al-Jazeera State, the Dinder area in Sennar State, Nyala in South Darfur, and Mellit, Koma and Al-Fasher in North Darfur, in addition to the ongoing bombing of the capital, Khartoum.
The memorandum also called for a binding international decision to close all platforms inciting war, hatred and racism, and to extend the mandate of the International Criminal Court to include crimes committed throughout Sudan.
The memorandum stated that the continuation of the war leads to further violations of the right to life of civilians and may turn it into a comprehensive civil war, confirming this with what happened in the Al-Jazeera areas of targeting citizens on the basis of identity.
The memorandum explained that the dissolved National Congress Party and its followers in the army seek to ignite a civil war among citizens through tribal strife and incitement, and mobilizing citizens without training or armament, which puts them in confrontation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
