Since 2022, Prime Minister Orban has refused to send weapons to Ukraine or even allow their transit through Hungarian territory.
On Thursday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized “The Weimar Statement,” a communique on Ukraine issued by Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

“This statement is a sad testament to Brussels’ poor leadership. While President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin are negotiating peace, EU officials are issuing worthless statements,” he said.
Earlier, through social media, Kallas released a statement whereby Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom affirmed their willingness to continue supporting Ukraine.
“We are ready to enhance our support for Ukraine. We commit to its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s war of aggression. We share the goal of continuing to support Ukraine until a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace is reached,” they said.
“A peace that guarantees the interests of Ukraine and our own. We are looking forward to discussing the way ahead together with our American allies. Our shared objectives should be to put Ukraine in a position of strength. Ukraine and Europe must be part of any negotiations. Ukraine should be provided with strong security guarantees.”
“A just and lasting peace in Ukraine is a necessary condition for strong transatlantic security. We recall that the security of the European continent is our common responsibility. We are therefore working together to strengthen our collective defense capabilities,” the Weimar Statement pointed out.
According to Orban, Brussels’ stance of supporting the bloodshed in Ukraine “for as long as necessary is morally and politically unacceptable.”
“The European Union has not earned the right to participate in negotiations on Ukraine with Russia and the United States. You cannot demand to be brought to the negotiating table. You must earn it! With force, good leadership, and smart diplomacy,” Orban stressed.
Orban and his country have refused to send weapons to Ukraine or even allow their transit through Hungarian territory since the start of Russia’s special military operation in February 2022.
On Wednesday, Trump said he had reached an agreement with Putin to begin negotiations aimed at ending the Ukrainian conflict. He emphasized that both the Russian and Ukrainian leaders want peace.
