The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has issued an urgent call to end attacks on hospitals in Gaza in response to a series of recent incidents that have intensified the humanitarian crisis in the region.
In a post on the social network X, Tedros stressed that “Gaza’s hospitals have once again become battlefields” and emphasized that the health system is under “serious threat.”
This statement comes amid increasing violence, as Israeli forces carried out a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital last Friday, resulting in the arrest of more than 240 Palestinians, including numerous members of the medical staff and hospital director Hussam Abu Safiya.
According to health authorities in Gaza and the IDF, these actions have further exacerbated the already critical health situation in the region.
Tedros’ statement highlights international concern for the safety of health workers and access to essential medical services in a conflict environment.
The WHO has reiterated the need to protect hospitals and medical personnel, stressing that they should be considered safe areas regardless of the war context.
