In a significant step towards consolidating their ties, the multiplatform news outlet teleSUR and the Chinese news agency Xinhua signed a cooperation agreement this Monday during the Global South Media Summit held in São Paulo, Brazil. The agreement was signed by Patricia Villegas, president of teleSUR, and Fu Hua, president of Xinhua.

“teleSUR and Xinhua have been cooperating for years. But undoubtedly, this signing is a commitment; it reaffirms that our joint work will allow us to create more democracy and better governance,” stated the president of the Latin American and Caribbean channel.

The new pact aims to strengthen the communication network that connects teleSUR with other countries and peoples, thereby promoting a more effective exchange of information and perspectives.

Villegas also emphasized the importance of uniting efforts among communicators from the Global South to face current challenges in the information sphere.

In her address during the Summit, the president of the multiplatform news outlet called on all communicators to collaborate from their different platforms, stressing the need for a strong ethics in journalism and respect for the truth.

“From the smallest ventures to the most influential content creators, we must work together to tell reality as it is, facing facts with integrity,” Villegas noted.

The Global South Media Summit, which brings together journalists, thinkers, and leaders from developing nations, aims to strengthen cooperation among media from the South and amplify the voices of these nations on the international stage. The signing of the agreement between teleSUR and Xinhua is a key step towards that goal.
