“We are coordinating with China to set a date for the meeting, which is expected to take place in China in the second half of July,” the source stated.

The summit, which was already known to be scheduled for this year, will serve to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The meeting will take place after the EU-Japan summit, which will be held in Japan and is currently the subject of ongoing discussions.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who arrived in China on Thursday amid the trade war led by U.S. President Donald Trump against the country, added that the world needs “both China and the United States to talk.”

Sanchez stated today that the Asian country is “an essential partner in addressing global challenges such as climate change and the fight against inequality.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen urged Chinese Premier Li Qiang this past Tuesday to avoid “a further escalation” in the trade war sparked by the tariffs announced by Trump.
