The U.S. President imposed sanctions on ICC members for their investigations into Washington and its allies.
On Friday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) condemned the issuance of an executive order by which U.S. President Donald Trump sanctions officials of that institution.

In response, the ICC emphasized that it “stands firmly by its staff and remains committed to delivering justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities around the world” in all its ongoing investigations.
Among these investigations is the one that prompted the sanctions the United States seeks to impose, which includes an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
“We call on our 125 Member States, civil society, and all nations of the world to unite in defense of justice and fundamental human rights,” the ICC added in reaction to Trump’s executive order sanctioning the Court for its actions against the United States, Israel, and their allies.
Trump considers that the ICC has undertaken “illegitimate and unfounded actions against the United States” and Israel, which he describes as a “close ally,” and that it has “further abused its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants” against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
While Washington says it remains committed to accountability, the executive order calls on the ICC to respect the U.S. decision not to subject its personnel to the jurisdiction of that court. Trump’s order imposes financial restrictions and visa limitations for traveling to the United States on ICC officials and their families who collaborate in investigations against U.S. citizens or Washington’s allies.
Within the next 60 days, the U.S. Treasury Department must submit a list of additional individuals who could be affected by this measure. The signing of the order came after Trump’s meeting on Tuesday with Netanyahu, whom the ICC considers allegedly responsible for crimes such as using starvation as a weapon of war against Palestinians in Gaza.
Established through the Rome Statute, the ICC’s mission is to prosecute individuals accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression. The U.S., China, Russia, and Israel are not members of the Court and do not recognize its jurisdiction or support it in cases that affect them or their allies.
