In a historic session, the National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela approved, this Thursday, unanimously and in a second discussion, the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law against the Imperialist Blockade and in Defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This legislation aims to protect the country from external aggression and penalize those politicians who promote foreign interventions or unilateral restrictive measures.
The law provides, among other provisions, for the lifelong disqualification of politicians who have requested invasions or sanctions against Venezuela.
This approach seeks to delegitimize the actions of the Venezuelan extreme right, which has resorted to violence and foreign intervention after losing democratic elections.
NA President Jorge Rodríguez stressed the importance of this law as a mechanism to shield Venezuela from destabilizing intentions that threaten its sovereignty.
“We will not tolerate any aggression against the Venezuelans and against the Homeland,” said Rodríguez, who also announced that the law provides for the extinction of control over the property of those politicians who betray their country.
After the approval, the deputies moved to Simón Bolívar Square in downtown Caracas, where they deposited the text of the law at the foot of the statue of the Liberator.
In an emotional act, they sang the National Anthem, reaffirming their commitment to Bolivarian ideals. Rodríguez emphasized that “there are new empires and new threats,” but that love for Bolívar and determination to be Bolivarian will prevail.
With this measure, the Venezuelan government seeks to strengthen its narrative of resistance against any imperialist attack while trying to consolidate popular support amid adversity.
The leaders of the government have expressed their intention to use this legislation not only as a legal instrument but also as a symbol of national unity in defense of Venezuelan sovereignty. The international response to this new regulation and its implications for the country’s domestic policy will be crucial issues in the coming days.
