Pope Francis is still in critical condition at the Gemelli hospital in Rome, although he has not had any new respiratory crises, “but some blood tests show an initial mild renal insufficiency, currently under control,” according to the medical report released by the Vatican.

The Pope, who was admitted on 14 February with bilateral pneumonia, received two units of red blood cell concentrate that increased his hemoglobin value, adds the medical report published this Sunday.

Thrombocytopenia, that is, the low level of platelets detected on Saturday, “remained stable,” explained the sources.

“However, some blood tests show a mild initial renal failure, currently under control,” they added.

High-flow oxygen therapy continues through nasal cannulas, after the pope had a respiratory crisis this Saturday.

The pope remains alert and well-oriented, adds the doctor.

“The complexity of the clinical picture and the waiting for pharmacological therapies to give some response require that the prognosis remain reserved,” added the sources.

During the morning, in the apartment on the 10th floor of the health center, Francisco participated in mass with those who care for him during these days of hospitalization.
