The former president of Honduras Manuel Zelaya accused the United States of using his country “as a laboratory” to carry out “his interventionist policies” on Saturday, when he inaugurated a meeting of the Puebla Group in Tegucigalpa, which brought together progressive leaders from Latin America and Spain.

“Honduras has been used as a laboratory of the United States to practice and carry out many of its interventionist policies and, in addition, of protected democracies highly dependent on the hegemony exercised in the dollar sphere,” Zelaya said in his speech.

He pointed out that “if there is no capacity and conviction, not of the leadership, but of the political basis of a society, there is no change, no revolution, and no transformations like those needed in all our countries.”

@HectorZelaya participated in the second workshop of the work session of the Puebla Group “Change is justice”, held in Honduras to commemorate the 15 years of the coup d’état against Manuel Zelaya. In this important meeting, strategies were discussed to strengthen social justice and democracy in the region.

“We have survived in all this time 12 years and 7 months of fierce dictatorship that was installed in Honduras with the support of the United States,” emphasized the former Honduran president, who on the eve recalled the fifteen years that power had been seized.

He assured that a political party that wins the elections “does not have power if it does not know how to exercise it, if it does not combat this criminal capitalism that governs the world, this globalization that has left only consequences of poverty in many of our latitudes.”

Alberto Fernández, former Argentine president who also participated in the meeting said that he is living the sunset of American imperialism: “The world is changing, a new geopolitical element appears, the Brics (group of emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), which objectively represent more than the G7, represent 44% of humanity and have 7% of GDP.”

“The Right was much more efficient than us in finding him a health proposal and that is why it has led them to believe that the real anti-establishment is the Right, but in truth the Right is nothing more than the restoration of the worst system, which is the system that distributes among the few the much and postpones the many to nothing,” said the former Argentine president.
