The accident occurred at kilometer 91 of the highway that connects Guatemala City with the Pacific Ocean coast, a route frequently used by vehicles heading to beaches.

According to reports from the Volunteer Fire Brigade, the tragic incident resulted in the death of three adults and three minors while investigating the causes of the accident, which could have been caused by dangerous driving conditions or a carelessness on the part of drivers.

Fire Officer Víctor Gómez reported that the fatalities were in a pickup truck that caught fire after crashing, and that 950 gallons of water was used to put out the fire.

The authorities have not disclosed the identity or age of the deceased, nor the probable causes of the accident, allegedly due to the crash of the vehicle into a tree.

In February, nine Cuban migrants lost their lives in an accident in southern Guatemala. During 2023, Guatemala recorded 2,273 deaths and 8,914 injuries from traffic accidents.
