Trinidad & Tobago: Deaths from Dengue Fever Rise to 18, Seven in September

A total of 18 people have died from dengue in Trinidad and Tobago since the outbreak began three months ago, with seven cases recorded this September, the Trinitarian Ministry of Health announced on Friday.

Health also reported in a brief report that laboratory-confirmed cases of infection in the country amount to 1,416.

As of 30 August, 11 deaths from dengue fever and 1,053 cases had been reported. The first death due to dengue fever in 2024 was reported on 21 June, when cases stood at 126.

The Trinitarian authorities reminded citizens that the best way to reduce the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases is by eliminating breeding sites.

Dengue is a disease that affects people of all ages, with symptoms ranging from mild fever to disabling fever, accompanied by severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, and erythema.
