The weather phenomenon, located 170 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Isla Guanaja, Honduras, and 470 km southeast of Puerto Costa Maya, Quintana Roo, recorded maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 95 km/h.
Currently, Sara is moving westward at 17 km/h, according to the latest update recorded at 9:00 PM local time. Its circulation will bring intense rainfall, between 50 to 75 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and possible hail in the Mexican states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan.
Additionally, wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h, waves of up to two meters in height, and the potential formation of waterspouts are expected along the coasts of Quintana Roo.
The SMN warned that the rainfall could cause flooding and waterlogging in vulnerable areas and urged local residents, tourists, and maritime navigation to follow the recommendations of Civil Protection authorities. It also advised extreme caution due to strong winds and elevated waves along the coasts.
Furthermore, the Mexican Meteorological Service encouraged the public to remain vigilant regarding the storm’s progress and weather conditions and to follow updates on official platforms.
This weather system continues to pose a significant risk to southeastern Mexico, as authorities remain on alert to mitigate the storm’s impact and protect people in high-risk areas.
