There were hundreds, if not thousands, of people who lost millions of dollars, Trump’s Special Envoy for Latin America said.
This weekend, Mauricio Claver-Carone, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Latin America, anticipated that U.S. justice will investigate the cryptocurrency scam in which Argentine President Javier Milei is involved.

“It’s complicated because there were victims and defrauded Americans. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of people who lost millions of dollars. And some of his advisors are also Americans,” Claver-Carone said during an interview with CNN.
“Beyond the ideological affinity between the White House and the Casa Rosada, the former advisor to Trump’s National Security Council clarified that the scandal will not fade away in U.S. courts,” the Argentine newspaper Pagina 12 reported.
“To soften the blow, Claver-Carone—using a diplomatic tone—sought to minimize the responsibility of the Argentine president and pointed to his inner circle,” it commented.
“All the fireworks and distraction maneuvers that the government is launching to overshadow the multi-million-dollar scam promoted by Milei inevitably fall on deaf ears. The scandal over $LIBRA not only persists in the international press, but investigations against the Argentine president continue to pile up,” Pagina 12 stressed.
Meanwhile, the Milei administration seeks to downplay the situation through fluctuating narratives that fail to maintain a coherent and consistent argumentative line.
“Claver-Carone’s stance is a sensitive issue for the Pink House. The State Department official is one of the most critical Republicans of Milei,” Pagina 12 pointed out, noting that Claver-Carone could have more influence on Latin American issues than Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
