“Last night, the enemy attempted to strike the atomic power plant… the IAEA has been informed. They promised to come themselves and send specialists to assess the situation. I hope they actually do so,” the Russian leader said.
The organization is expected to send specialists to assess the situation. Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of the Kursk region, told Putin that the situation at the Kursk nuclear power station remained stable. Russia’s RIA Novosti reported that the IAEA’s Director General Rafael Grossi will visit the Kursk plant next week.
Over the past week, Ukrainian forces have attempted to maintain an offensive in Kursk after they were forced by Russian troops to retreat from Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
Currently, fighting in the Kursk region is taking place in the area of the Seim River, seven kilometers from the town of Snagost and 35 kilometers northwest of Sudzha, according to the analysis platform DeepState.
Early Thursday, a fire broke out at a military facility in Russia’s Volgograd region following a Ukrainian drone attack. Russian air defense forces repelled the assault, destroying most of the Ukrainian drones, Volgograd Governor Andrei Bocharov stated.
The attack occurred near the village of Marinovka, where the Ukrainian drones targeted a Russian military site. No casualties were reported. Flight operations at Volgograd Airport have been disrupted. There has been no official confirmation regarding restrictions on airspace usage in the region.
