“As if the tragic events in Israel and then in Gaza over the last eight months were not enough, the people of the occupied West Bank are also being subjected day after day to unprecedented bloodshed,” he said.

“It is unfathomable that so many lives have been taken so wildly,” the High Commissioner said.

“Massacres, destruction and widespread violations of human rights are unacceptable and must cease immediately”.

“Israel must not only adopt but enforce rules of engagement that are fully in line with applicable human rights norms and standards”.

“Any allegation of unlawful homicide must be thoroughly and independently investigated and those responsible held accountable”.

“Widespread impunity for such crimes has been common for too long in the occupied West Bank”.

“Such impunity has created an enabling environment for Israeli forces to commit more and more unlawful killings. International law must be respected and enforced, and accountability ensured”.

“The verification of the deaths and the in-depth monitoring of more than 80 cases by the UN Human Rights Office indicate constant violations of international human rights law by Israeli forces”.

“Through the unnecessary and disproportionate use of lethal force and an increase in seemingly planned targeted attacks. murders,” Türk said. “They also show the denial or systematic delay of medical assistance to critical injuries.

“The violence of Israeli forces and Israeli settlers, in the context of the continuing scale of massacres and destruction in Gaza, has instilled fear and insecurity among Palestinians in the occupied West Bank”.

The killing of Palestinians by Israeli forces, which had already reached a record level in the first nine months of 2023, increased dramatically since last October.

Since early 2024, Israeli forces have killed nearly 200 Palestinians, compared with 113 and 50 killed in the same periods in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
