The General Assembly demands that Israel end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories without delay.

The General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) called on Wednesday for an end to the occupation of the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces in a non-binding resolution.

The decision was adopted by 124 votes in favour, 14 against (including «Israel», USA, Hungary, Czech Republic and Argentina) and 43 abstentions, and called on the Zionist state to end its presence in the Palestinian territories.

“The General Assembly adopts a resolution demanding that Israel end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories without delay and within the next 12 months,” reported the UN on social network X.

The resolution was discussed by 193 member states of the entity and followed the ruling of the International Court of Justice issued last July, when reviewing the occupation of Israeli forces since 1967, at the request of the General Assembly.

It also required the cessation of new settlements, the restitution of expropriated land and property and the return of displaced Palestinians.

The provision called on member states to implement actions to end imports from settlements and arms supplies to Israel.

It also proposed sanctions against those who are involved in maintaining the illegal presence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, persuaded the member states to choose the right side of history and support the resolution, the first submitted by Palestine as an observer thanks to a conquered right.
