UN Demands That the U.S. Remove Cuba From List of Countries Sponsoring Terrorism

Several independent experts from the United Nations (UN) demanded the withdrawal of Cuba by the United States (USA) The United States Government added to the list of States that sponsor terrorism (SSOT), adding that the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation must be lifted.

The group of experts indicated that the presence of Cuba in this list causes a conglomeration of restrictions from an economic and financial point of view which hinder the ability to resolve Cuban Government to provide assistance to its people.

Among the damages caused by this decision, experts listed the limitation on obtaining licenses for the export of medicines and medical equipment to the country, and this consequently leads to a shortage “which affects all priority health sectors, including cardiovascular disease, pediatric oncology, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology”.

“We urge the United States Government to fully comply with all its international human rights obligations, including extraterritorial, and to take prompt action to end those measures”, they insisted.

They also emphasized that “the US government must end the restrictions imposed on Cuba”.
