UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, said he was “horrified” by the Israeli air strike that has caused at least 18 deaths (including four children) in the vicinity of a Beirut hospital and called for extreme caution to prevent health facilities from being damaged in the current conflict.

“Hospitals, ambulances and medical personnel are specifically protected under international humanitarian law, for their vital role in saving the lives of wounded and sick,” Türk said in a statement.
“When conducting military operations near hospitals, the parties to the conflict must assess the possible impact on health services and act with proportionality and caution,” added the UN human rights chief who stressed that such attacks should be investigated.
The Israeli shelling of the Rafic Hariri government hospital outside Beirut last night also left some 60 people injured, according to a statement by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
Israel bombed on Monday afternoon the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as the Dahye, and attacked different areas such as Haret Hreik, Al Ruwais and Ghobeiry, where precisely the Israeli air force launched another wave of attacks throughout the day this Tuesday.
