The United Nations reported that the World Food Programme (WFP) has been unable to deliver food to Gaza since October 1 due to disrupted aid lines. As a result, one million people face the risk of food insecurity.

In a report released on October 11, the World Food Programme (WFP) stated that aid lines to northern Gaza have been cut since October 1, severely limiting food access. The WFP emphasized that without a resumption of aid, people face serious food deprivation. They also stated that, as a result, one million people are at serious risk of food insecurity if assistance does not resume.

“The WFP distributed its last food reserves in northern Gaza to partners and kitchens supporting newly displaced families, but these supplies will last only two weeks,” stated Farhan Haq, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.

Additionally, many food establishments in northern Gaza face closure amid escalating conflict.

In southern Gaza, food distribution has also ceased, “with bakeries struggling to obtain wheat flour—essential for making bread, a staple in the Palestinian diet—putting them at risk of shutting down any day”.

Haq emphasized that humanitarian organizations are responding “to the best of their abilities,” but aid levels are at their lowest in months.
